If you’re getting ready for outdoor barbecues this summer like I am, following these tips and tricks will help you get your backyard ready and preserve your home this summer.
My first tip is to start using the door you use the least. I always come in through the garage door, so my front door is rarely used. You’ll notice things that accumulate like cobwebs and leaves; use anything from a leaf blower to a power washer to clean your front door and entryway because it’ll make a huge difference. Be careful with pressure washers though because too much pressure on chipping paint can cause it to flake off altogether.
When washing the deck or exterior stone like on your facade, power washing can have the same damaging effect, so use with discretion. You also want to avoid using any chlorine cleaning agents on your deck or patio because it will cause stains. Unfortunately, I know this from experience. Similarly, using a wire brush to clean your deck will scrape the surface and start to compromise it, which is the last thing you want.
Finally, we’re entering monsoon season. I personally spent the weekend spraying weeds to get ahead of them before the rain. I’d also be happy to recommend some local landscaping companies that will come out and do this for you. All of these things make a huge difference when you start to have guests over, and it’s all a little less backbreaking if you start early and do it a little bit at a time.
