As a buyer, one of the most important things you can do is to pick a really good home inspector.
Today, I’d like to share some tips on how to do this.
First, find out if they are a member of the American Society of Home Inspectors (or ASHI). This is a great group of people who subscribe to a higher standard and receive constant training in their profession.
Hiring a home inspector is just the tip of the iceberg.
You want to make sure your inspector is truly invested in what they do. Still, don’t leave it to the home inspector to find everything. If you expect your heat to work in the winter, you may want to consider having an HVAC specialist take a look. If you’re worried about your roof, it’s time to hire a roofer to take a look.
Speciality inspections are also important. Hiring a home inspector is just the tip of the iceberg. Nevertheless, they still play an incredibly important role.
Make sure the home inspector you hire is licensed, bonded or insured, and a member of ASHI. This is a great checklist to help you get started. Also, consider visiting their website. You want to make sure the person you’re working with will be a strong advocate for you.
Everything you can’t see or notice about a home is something they should be able to identify for you.
